Lobby Renovation, 1211 Avenue of the Americas*
New York, NY

1211 Avenue of the Americas, a 44-story office tower completed in 1973, is part of the Rockefeller Center West complex in midtown Manhattan. This project involved an extensive lobby renovation, which bridges the gap between the traditional architecture of Rockefeller Center and the more contemporary sensibilities of neighboring buildings. The new design incorporates mahogany paneling, dramatic lighting and specially commissioned artwork--including a 20 by 40 foot mural by artist Robert Natkin. The 12,000 SF lobby includes a concierge desk, messenger center, mahogany elevator cabs, security and surveillance system, and Italian marble floors.
