Queens Community District 14 Garage and Salt Shed
Edgemere, NY

In a joint venture with Judd Designs, daSILVA Architects was selected by the New York City Department of Sanitation to provide full architectural services for the Queens Community District 14 Garage and Salt Shed. The 75,000 SF building includes two-stories of administrative offices overlooking a double height garage and truck repair shop. Multiple skylights suffuse the space, creating an open atmosphere. The structure is a steel-framed building with exterior masonry cavity walls and a glass curtain wall. It responds to the client's stringent requirements while maintaining a handsome character that blends into neighboring parklands. The area surrounding the site contains wetlands and is a designated New York City park. New landscaping with plant materials indigenous to wetland environments will be added. This project was awarded the NYC Arts Commission Award for Excellence in Design in 2004.
