The Sidney Kimmel Center offers comprehensive, multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment of cancer under one roof. Situated directly across from a children's playground on Manhattan's upper east side, this six-story freestanding structure features a rare, unimpeded southern exposure. Both client and architect agreed to exploit the unique location and maximize the use of natural light. The architectural challenges included building "as of right", aligning the facade with adjacent buildings and complying with an 18-month fast-track schedule.
