Emergency Department Renovation
Lenox Hill Hospital, New York, NY
Doubling the size of Lenox Hill Hospital's emergency department (from 8,000 SF to 16,000 SF), daSILVA Architects designed a new space that reflects the changing needs of the hospital and the mission of the department. The ED was expanded into three adjacent buildings, requiring detailed planning and construction phasing to prevent interruption of routine hospital matters and allow unimpeded emergency services during construction. We created an open model, where every space is easily converted into essential operating modes. Central cores were created to increase productivity and standards in patient care; intake nurses are no longer confined to their desks, and patients are assessed for treatment within moments of their arrival. Dedicated controls have been placed throughout the department for disaster preparedness, infection control and secure treatment.
