Exterior and Garden Renovations
Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY

As part of a major redesign of Montefiore's west Bronx campus, daSILVA was responsible for bringing a sense of unity to a disparate group of buildings, some of which have historical value, dating back over ninety years. We designed a new facade to tie the 1950s style entrance pavilion together with the original buildings. The main pavilion, Rosenthal South, was refurbished and we renovated the main entrance and waiting room. A new roof was constructed and the original patient balconies were rebuilt. Decorative ironwork railings and balcony supports were replaced and existing limestone and terra cotta trim was restored. Adjacent to the main entrance, a new public garden was designed incorporating raised beds, bluestone paving, a wisteria-covered arcade, vintage lighting and moveable garden seating. Seasonal plantings and decorative banners give a festive air to the entire streetscape.
