Labor and Delivery Suite
SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY

daSILVA Architects designed a 9,000 SF addition and renovation to 15,000 SF of existing space in a multi-phased upgrade to the Labor, Delivery and Recovery (LDR) Suite at SUNY Downstate Medical Center to accomodate the growing number of births projected by the hospital.

We designed the new suite with two delivery rooms in an expanded, code-compliant space. It includes a central waiting and reception area; observation and testing rooms; sonogram facilities; six on-call rooms; staff offices; staff lounge areas and nine LDR rooms. The windows in the LD rooms are operable and screened. Each room has a private toilet and shower room and three are equipped with tubs, as well. All are designed with sufficient area for future conversion to LDRP's. The facility remained in continuous operation throughout the construction process.
