Cafeteria
Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY
daSILVA Architects designed a new 500-seat cafeteria for patients and staff on the Montefiore campus. The renovation created room for a greater number of seats but the use of varied ceiling heights breaks the space into comfortably sized intimate seating areas. The existing servery was substantially enlarged and redesigned to allow random approaches to the serving stations. The room divides into two parts for smaller functions. Windows replicating those of the original building open the space to views from the corridor on one side and simulate exterior windows on the opposite side. Brightly patterned flooring helps organize the seating areas and define circulation.
