The Institute for Reproductive
Medicine and Science
Saint Barnabas Health Care System, NJ
daSILVA Architects designed an addition to the corporate headquarters of Saint Barnabas Health Care System to accommodate the Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Science (IRMS). The new addition accommodates patient services including the in-vitro fertilization department for IRMS as well as leased medical offices.
Our approach to the IVF center design allowed for the densest packing of geometric forms to create the shortest traveling distance between all processes involved. We architecturally support opportunities for doctors and scientists to collaborate during egg retrieval, holding, fertilization, growth and reimplantation while minimizing opportunities for jostling the embryo or exposing it to embryotoxic substances while it is outside the womb. The new space encourages cross discipline interaction.
