Mt. Sinai School of Medicine
Center for Comparative Medicine and Surgery, Department of Medicine, New York, NY

Growth within the Center for Comparative Medicine and Surgery required reconfiguration and reassignment of existing spaces on the twenty-sixth floor of the Annenberg Building. This proposed renovation was possible due to the current under-utilization of two animal holding rooms. Working together with the Center for Comparative Medicine and Surgery, Facilities Management, and Morgan Construction Enterprises, daSILVA identified the issues required for the renovation and increased efficiency of these office spaces.

The scope of work involved: the creation of two new offices; a conference room; a waiting area; a storage room; a copy center; a pantry; and the relocation of the director’s and administrative assistant’s offices. The creation of the conference room allows the possibility for freeing up space within the animal holding areas on the floor for more appropriate functions. The reconfiguration of the offices improves circulation flow through the waiting area into the director’s and administrative assistant’s offices. By creating a separate copy area and storage closet, administrative support areas were freed up, allowing for additional support staff in workstations as originally designed.
