Private Residence
Santa
Barbara, CA
daSILVA Architects designed this 5,000 SF
Santa Barbara residence to integrate into
the landscape and surrounding community.
The design is a product of theoretically
based architecture and arrangement of the
functions of the house. Four different
types of spaces were defined by their use:
private areas and bedrooms; public areas
such as the living room, dining room, and
kitchen; service areas such as the
bathrooms and garage; and recreational
areas containing a lap pool and exercise
room. These spaces are arranged in an
interlocking grid, like a Chinese puzzle,
around a central core that serves as an
entrance and art gallery. Each section is
distinguished by its exterior color of
stucco (white, sand, green, and slate
blue) to retain an individual visual
identity.
