Devonwood Residence*
New Canaan, CT

The owners bought an existing English country style house situated on five acres of beautifully landscaped gardens. While they loved the style of the house, its warren of small rooms and limited square footage were unsuited to their needs.

Anton Martinez' initial plans for extensions and renovations evolved into a complete reconstruction of the house-three times larger than the former house-using portions of the existing foundation. The design evolved to include new spatial freedom with the vernacular style of the existing structure. The public rooms on the first floor are arranged in private suites allowing for guests to stay amidst a family environment. Mr. Martinez designed an octagonal family room with cherry lined double height ceiling capturing the spirit of the design which reinterprets traditional elements with modern detailing.
