Utilizing existing space at Kings County Hospital Center, daSILVA Architects is working with Kings County, Long Island University and the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation to create a new School of Nursing. The school will offer a four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program to train community residents and HHC staff to become RNs.

daSILVA is providing Architectural/Engineering and cost estimating services for the design and 14,000 SF facility on the 5th floor of the “T“ Building of Hospital Center. An additional 3,000 SF on the floor is available for future expansion. The school is planned to open in September, 2009 with a class of 60 students and will eventually enrol approximately 240 students.

Preliminary facilities will include three classrooms, two clinical labs, a computer lab, two conference rooms, a staff lounge, a student lounge, seven offices, bathrooms, and storage space. Another computer lab with 14 stations is located elsewhere in the building and will be available for the nursing students. Library facilities will be provided elsewhere. The project goal is to achieve Silver LEED certification.
