Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
New York, NY
Year: 2007
In the fall of 2007, daSILVA Architects upgraded the Society Offices at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. The original office required new lighting and mechanical systems, increased storage space, new finishes and furniture.
“Our main goal was to enhance the image and functionality of the space in a simple, effective way,” noted daSILVA principal Paul Whitson. In order to cut energy costs, the new design relied heavily on natural and fluorescent light as sources of illumination. A state-of-the-art curtain wall drops down with the touch of a button, providing insulation and protection of audiovisual screens. The space is brighter and warmer; energy costs are down. A new flight of stairs connects to storage space, allowing for increased circulation and openness on the main floor. Cherry wood desks and new chairs were added to maximize storage space and comfort.
