Residential Restoration*

Pelham Manor, NY

Projects: Previous | Next

Built in the late 1800s, this Victorian gem has been referred to in several periodicals as a perfect cottage for country living. Unfortunately, it was the victim of several insensitive alterations by previous owners.

The current owner wanted to update the kitchen and create a new family/media room. An existing garage, added in the 1960s and with no visual relationship to the house, was recognized as the best location for the addition.

For the envelope of the new addition, we imitated the shapes of the existing house and its roof lines. The brick foundation was stripped and replaced with a new color scheme to emphasize the house’s architectural detailing. This project was as much a restoration as an alteration; the end result is an update of the home that does not compromise the integrity of its original design.
