Mt. Kisco, NY

daSILVA was hired by a private client to design a retail wine outlet in Mt. Kisco, NY. The site in the commuter suburb of New York City was located very near the train station on the village Main Street. The proximity to the train station and location in the commercial heart of the town will provide a strong customer base for the store.
The notion of the train station provided the overall form of the store, with a center line of columns supporting arches reminiscent of the original Penn Station in NYC. The Italian wine expert who was part of the client group provided other design inspiration as the interior is spiced with the flavor of Italy. The columns and arches are also indigenous to Tuscan Hill towns, and their finish in plaster fresco recalls stucco construction. The cork floors were an allusion to the most vital part of the wine bottle. A mahogany modular wine rack system was selected and integrated into the architecture. Custom iron work gates protect the rare and select vintages in a special section of the arcade.
