New York, NY
Following a complete gut renovation of this former furrier’s vault, daSILVA principal Anton Martinez designed this three-level restaurant with extensive catering operations.
Mr. Martinez’ design focused on creating distinct areas for the coffee bar, retail area, and restaurant, while visually linking them. The first floor coffee bar sits below the open restaurant mezzanine and viewing bridge, with a grand stair linking the two levels. Strong visual points of interest, including the coffee bar and food display cases, are interspersed throughout the various spaces. Materials were selected for both durability and functionality, and comfort. Design services included complete selection of materials, lighting, and mechanical systems.
Three separate kitchens—one on each level—were installed. The cellar floor houses the catering kitchen, bakery and dispatch; the ground floor kitchen provides takeout food and an espresso/ cappuccino bar; and the second floor is a full menu restaurant with seating for over 100. New electric, mechanical, and air ventilation systems were intricately integrated into the existing structure.
